About the Region

Home to the state capital of New York, the immediate Capital Region is conveniently located and full of opportunities to work, learn, play, and relax.  In 2010, Forbes magazine ranked the area 9th in their article “In Pictures: America’s Best Places to Raise a Family” and with good reason.

The Capital Region, also known as Tech Valley, is booming with technological advances and development.  GE, IBM, Sematech, and GlobalFoundaries have set up bases of operation here and educational institutions like the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and RPI provide personnel resources, research, and knowledge.  Combined, they keep the area in the national and global eye.

With a wide range of recreational activities, parks, entertainment venues, and museums, the Capital Region is here to please all the appetites.  Whether you are looking for the excitement of the Saratoga Racetrack, a show at Proctor’s in Schenectady, kayaking  & canoeing, skiing, or visiting the CNSE Children’s Museum of Science and Technology in Troy, our area has it all.

And when the season arrives, the Capital Region offers a variety of events like the Scottish Games at the Altamont Fairgrounds, the Saratoga County Fair in Ballston Spa, and even ice skating at the Empire State Plaza.
